How Can I Get A Library Card?

Anyone may sign up for a Princeton Public Library card by submitting an application in person at the library or by choosing to sign up online through the library catalog. A library card can open the door to an array of materials such as bestselling titles, hidden gems, or even cult classics. A library card is a useful tool that allows you to borrow materials from a community consortium that belongs to everyone in the area.

State residents who have had a library card in the past may request a replacement card for a $1.00 fee by submitting an application. A library card at the Princeton Public Library allows you to check out 30 materials per check out, per card, 4 visual items, such as DVD’s, at a time, and provides limitless access to e-resources as well as electronic materials through Overdrive/ Libby (WV Reads: the WV consortium for e-materials).

Completed applications must be returned to a library staff member at the circulation desk or emailed to the library along with the following:

  • Proof of current address (A recently received piece of mail is preferred)
  • A Photo ID

Children under the age of 18 applying for a library card must present a completed application and must have a parent or guardian account in good standing at the library. Applications for children must be submitted with the parent/guardian information and include their signature, but we also acknowledge that each participant is responsible for their own card with the understanding that the parent or guardian will take responsibility of the youth account until the child is of age to fully take responsibility for their own fines and fees.

Once the application and all necessary documentation has be reviewed, new patrons may check out two 2 items their first time and up to 30 items once those items are returned. Library staff members will then notify patrons by phone once their card is available to be picked up. Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for more information about limitations, checkout duration, and fine information.

You may also submit a library card application online by visiting the library catalog and then clicking the button located in the top right corner that says sign up (or by using a direct link here). This allows you to complete a digital application that will be directly submitted to your library staff. We will then contact you to verify your recently created account, and after collecting a few more pieces of information from you via telephone or email then you can start checking out right away.

It’s as simple as that… and then the world is at your fingertips!
